May 2012 - Wildlife - 3 of 5

Here are pictures from the Thursday Group. As our technical topic was to improve our critique skills, we took turns to practise on this month's pictures. We have included a summary of some of our critiques. See if you agree!

Les: Goat
Wildlife
Spider and web. This was a hot favourite. The drops of water on the web gave a beautiful effect. We liked the way the background was out of focus, and the web went from in focus to out of focus in the distance.

Wildlife
Anna: Elephant getting up in Nepal. The angle of the elephant's back splits the picture. The elephant fills the frame.
Wildlife
The object of the picture is clear, framed and the colours are good.

Wildlife
Claudine: Horses in the Camargue. Both eyes are visible. The horse fills the space.
Wildlife
Lizard. The colours are simple. The effect is quirky.

Wildlife
Alister: Camels in Jordan. The splash of colour is good.
Wildlife
It was suggested that the picture would be improved if the camels could be more prominent while keeping the scenic background. For a bit of fun, I've used last month's techniques to attempt that.

Wildlife
Alister: New Zealand Seal. We liked the shape.
Wildlife
Pam: Dzo and calf, Sikkim. We liked the big and little contrast. Would the picture be improved by cropping out some of the right hand side of the picture?
